Last week, natural food industry founders and executives gathered in New York City to jumpstart the growth of their businesses through timely insights and new partnerships. An impactful group of industry leaders took the stage to dive into pressing topics currently affecting the food industry.

On the opening day of NOSH Live, John Lowe, CEO of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, announced he would step down from the role after 13 years. The announcement cast a nostalgic tone over the rest of Lowe’s presentation, in which he detailed the company’s rise from a small Ohio scoop shop to a nationally distributed brand. In other big announcements, better-for-you cereal maker Magic Spoon shared that it had raised an $85 million capital round. After three years as an ecommerce-focused business, the brand plans to launch in over 1,350 Target stores nationwide. Later, Vital Farms detailed the importance of learning conscious capitalism, Kroger discussed the evolution of omnichannel for CPG over the past several years during the pandemic, and a panel of founders including Ithaca Hummus, Partake Foods, and Little Spoon discussed their fundraising experiences and how They made the most out of the funding to take their companies to the next stage of growth.

On Day 2, Sweet Loren’s CEO and founder Loren Castle announced that the better-for-you cookie dough brand will be launching a range of reduced sugar products in Publix next month, executives from Whole Foods stressed the importance of brands staying true to their ethos , Innova Market Insights shared how Gen Z is shaping CPG consumer trends, and functional chocolate maker Mid-Day Squares discussed the importance of developing social media content to emotionally connect with and grow a loyal fanbase of consumers.

We also watched 11 emerging natural food brands pitch on stage during the NOSH Live Pitch Slam 12. Six brands advanced to the finals after receiving feedback from our panel of expert judges. Ruani, a line of adaptogenic better-for-you brownies, walked away with the winning title and a favorable prize package.
